Scientific activity
In the works of N. N. Rozanov and his team, such new fundamental phenomena were predicted as spatial hysteresis, optical switching waves, and spatial and spatio-temporal dissipative solitons in nonlinear optical and laser systems, and their consistent theory was created.
For the first time, the problem of describing the hysteresis of spatial distributions in extended bistable systems was posed and solved, which is of fundamental importance in relation to nonlinear optical recording and information processing. The special role of switching waves in the kinetics of spatial hysteresis is revealed. Based on the created theory, a new approach to high-performance information processing is proposed - the discrete-analog method, which allows combining the accuracy and reliability of the discrete (digital) approach with the availability of parallel operations inherent in the analog method.
Another important consequence of this theory is the prediction of a new class of solitons — optical spatial and spatio-temporal dissipative solitons. The variety and unusualness of their properties, including the curvilinear motion of asymmetric soliton structures even in a homogeneous environment, is demonstrated. The main predictions of the theory, including the kinetics of spatial hysteresis, optical switching waves, and dissipative optical solitons, have so far been experimentally confirmed.
NN Rozanov also proposed an approach to the formation of dissipative solitons of nanometer sizes and subfemtosecond duration. The important results obtained by N. N. Rozanov are also the theory of the Zeeman effect in gas lasers, the theory of pulsations of a laser with a frequency selective resonator, the theory of small-scale self-focusing of transversely bounded high-power laser beams and self-focusing in multi-element laser systems, the theory of four-wave mixing in electron-positron vacuum, new relativistic effects in a medium with an inhomogeneous speed of motion, the theory of the radical transformation of radiation upon reflection from moving in a nonlinear medium e pulses, etc.
N. N. Rozanov is the author of about 400 scientific works, including 14 monographs and chapters in them, the editor-in-chief of the Optical Journal. Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal Optics and Spectroscopy RAS, Member of the Editorial Board of the international journal Nonlinear Phenomena in Complex Systems, Chairman of the Program Committee of the international conference Optics of Lasers, Member of Two Dissertation Councils, Member of the College of National Experts of the CIS Member States on Lasers and Laser technology.
