Geographical position
Khomutsk is located in the southern part of Korablinsky district , 10 km south-east of the district center .
It stands on the banks of the river Ranova .

Title
There are three versions of the origin of the name of the village.
The village is named either by the name of the possible owners of Khomutsky, or by the configuration of the River Ranova, which makes a bend (“yoke”) in the area of the village.
In addition, the name of the village from the Khomutsky residents did not rule out. In 1919, out of 48 householders of the village, 8 were Khomut.
