Kizkalesi ( tour: Kızkalesi ) is a small Turkish town ( tour: belde ) in the Erdemli region of Mersin province. The population is 1,742 people ( 2011 [1] ), the height above sea level is 10 m. The city is 23 km away. from the district center of Erdemli and 60 km. from the city of Mersin . The name of the town comes from a small island fortress Kyzkalesi [2] , located 200 [3] -300 meters from the city promenade, whose name translates as Maiden Fortress . The town is located on the site of the ancient fortress city of Korikos .
