Phippsia ( lat. Phíppsia ) - a genus of perennial herbaceous plants of the family Cereals, or Bluegrass ( Poaceae ).

The genus is named after the British botanist and polar explorer Konstantin John Phipps

Botanical Description
Perennial herbaceous, dense plants, bare and smooth, 2–25 cm tall. The stems are ascending. The vagina is closed by more than ¾ length. The tongues are membranous, 0.5-3 mm long. The leaves are linear, usually flat, 0.8-3 mm wide.
Spikelets are single-flowered, small, (1) 1.2-1.5 (2) mm long, collected in compressed or spreading panicles with thin branches. The flower is bisexual. Stamens 1-2 (3), anthers 0.4-0.6 mm long. Grains free, flat, 1.3-1.7 mm long; hem is narrow, oval.
