Building
The courthouse is a large white house, built in 1886-1887 in the Neo-Renaissance style, designed by architect Johan Nordkist. The first few years the building was used as a school for teacher training. The building housed the director’s office, classrooms, classrooms and a sports hall. The building was surrounded by a small park [1] .
In the 1920s, the building was no longer used as a school and for the next few years served as a community center with a library and a museum. The Great Hall was used as a theater and concert hall [1] .
In 1950, additional premises were added to the house from the east and west sides. Subsequently, the building was reconstructed several times, the last time in 1999 [1] .
Court Opening
On December 16, 1936, King Gustav V opened the Upper Norrland Court of Appeal. The court was separated from the Svealand Court of Appeal in order to reduce the burden on the recent cases pending [1] .
Organization
Since 2012, the president of the Court of Appeal is Margaret Bergström, who replaced Anders Jacobus [2] . The President supervises the activities of the administrative and judicial boards, coordinates the work of judges and the court apparatus [3] .
