Rui is a mountain in Western Bulgaria and Southeast Serbia , in the historical and geographical area of Kraishte . It is part of the Ruysko-Veril mountain range. It borders the Tryn Basin from the north . According to Vasil Mikov the name of the mountain comes from the Latin name of the plant Skumpiya ( Rhus cotinus ), which is widespread in these places.

The mountain is located in the westernmost part of the Ruysko-Veril mountain range, on the border with Serbia . From northwest to southeast, its length is about 12 km, and its width is up to 10 km. The total area is about 86 km 2 . In the northeast, east and southeast, it reaches the valley of the Erma River , and in the south its steep slopes descend to the Tryn Basin. In the north, in Serbia, it extends to the valley of the Blatanitsa river (the left tributary of the Erma river), and in the west through the saddle at an altitude of 1243 m it is connected with Mount Miloslavskaya (Miloslavska planina) .
Rui is a typical block-type mountain bounded by steep slopes formed by faults. The flat top of the mountain is located at an altitude of 1600-1700 m. The highest point - the peak of the same name Rui (1705.6 m) is located in the western part, on the Bulgarian-Serbian border.
Rui is composed of Proterozoic gneisses, shales and amphibolites, as well as of Paleozoic granites and granodiorites. There are small deposits of tin-silver and copper ores. Soils are brown and light brown forest. The vegetation is represented by deciduous forest - beech, oak, hornbeam, and at the top there are extensive meadows.
At the southern foot of the mountain, on the Bulgarian territory, there is the city of Tryn and 3 villages: Zabel , Zelenigrad and Turokovtsy . On the Serbian territory, on the northern slope there are 3 villages: Vuchi Del , Rakita and Yasenov affairs .
At the southern foot of the mountain, there is a seven-kilometer stretch of the second class road No. 63 Pernik - Breznik - Tryn - Checkpoint "Stresimirovtsi".
Near the peak of Rui a hut (chalet) Rui was built, and on the left bank of the Erma River, near the village of Lomnitsa, there is Trynsky Monastery . In the eastern part of the mountain is the picturesque Trynskoe gorge in which the river Erma flows.
