Music and lyrics by Edmund Szklarski
Apparently, the devil kissed you
In a red mouth, quietly melting from the heat,
And the faces are restless oval
I stroked with a velvet dark hand.
If you can, run, cutting circles.
Just feel doomed.
It is worth the sun go, here I am
Immediately become purple-black.
Violet-purple-black,
Violet-purple-black.
<...>
No, not enough, and even more.
No, not enough, it was like that.
He faces restless oval
Stroked velvet dark ...
Violet-purple-black,
Violet-purple-black.
According to Alina Szklarskaya, the history of the song dates back to 1993 [1] . According to the author of the song Edmund Szklarsky , at first he wanted to write a picture in violet and black tones, but nothing came of it, and the desire that was not realized in painting was sublimated into a song a few years later [2] .
The song was recorded in 2000 and in the autumn of the same year as a radio single for the first time in many years for the group it got into active rotation on Nash Radio and in the Charts Dozen charts. In 2008, “Violet-Black”, not getting into the “charts dozen” (13) songs of the decade (1998–2008) at the listeners' choice, nevertheless, was in the top five songs of the decade at the choice of the “Our Radio” editorial number four.
Edmund Shklarsky ( vocals , guitar ), Svyatoslav Obraztsov ( bass guitar , backing vocals ), Sergey Voronin ( keyboards ) and Leonid Karnos ( drums ) participated in the recording of the song for the album “Egyptian”.
In the group's show, which followed the release of the album “Egyptian”, a pyrotechnic sign first appeared in the song “Violet-Black”.
“Picnic” practices joint concert performances of “Violet-Black” with other performers. The most famous of them are with Vadim Samoilov [3] , Valery Kipelov [4] , and Utah . They all occur under one tracing paper. The first stanza of the first verse, to fix the author’s usual intonation of the song, is played by one Edmund Shklyarsky. The first stanza of the second verse in his own manner is sung by one guest performer:
Yes, today everything is allowed
That you crush yourself so enthusiastically.
See, I'm circling over you.
It's me, purple-black.
The remaining fragments of the song are sung by both performers, as a rule, following the manner of singing by Shklyarsky.
The most famous cover version of the song belongs to Utah [5] .
Reception
The lack of clarity for the listeners of the authorship of the song text makes them constantly wonder about the meaning of the song and address this question to the author, Edmund Szklarsky . Szklarsky never answers fully and often formally confirms the assumption of the questioner, in fact leaving the question open.
The key statement of the author is the following: ““ Violet-black “is just about love” [6] . Sometimes he unfolds this statement:
... This is a love song, it seems to me, maybe about some specific one, but nevertheless it is one of the lyric songs, which, maybe, we don’t have so many, but it is lyrical [7] .
The meaning is about the same as in the song “ Your heart should be mine ”, only with sharper and more threatening intonations [8] .
On the question of what value the violet-black color combination has for him, Shklarsky answers like this:
Aesthetic value, of course. The Krishnas argue that the skin of the deity should be of this particular color [9] .
At the request of the Nashe Radio radio program leader to confirm or deny that Violet-Black is a kind of dedication to the Rolling Stones group, Shklyarsky answers (laughing and thus, perhaps reducing his answer to nothing): “I completely I confirm " [7] .
