Sleeping mushroom , or squamous pilolistnik ( Latin: Neolentínus lepídeus ) is a type of mushroom that belongs to the genus Neolentinus of the Gleophyllae family ( Gloeophyllaceae ).

Biological Description
The fruiting bodies are hat-legged, the hat of adult mushrooms 4-18 cm in diameter, first convex, then flat and, sometimes, slightly indented, fleshy. The upper surface of the hat is whitish, grayish or brownish, often with darker flakes, especially in the middle part. The pulp is hard, white, sometimes reddish on the cut, with a faint pleasant smell and with a fresh taste.
Lamellar hymenophore , plaques frequent, descending to the leg, with a serrated edge, whitish. Spore powder is white.
Leg 2.5-7 cm long, cylindrical, with a thickening and narrow root-shaped process at the base, whitish or cream, covered with grayish or brown scales.
The spores are cylindrical or narrowly elliptic, colorless, 8-12.5 × 3.5-5 microns. Club- shaped basidia , four-spore, 23–35 × 5–7 microns. The tram of the plates is incorrect to subparallel. The cuticle of the cap is cutis .
Sleeping mushroom is edible at a young age, while the pulp is soft enough. Only hats of young mushrooms are eaten.
Similar Views
Due to the characteristic habitat, the sleeper is difficult to confuse with other species.
Habitat and Ecology
The widespread saprotroph of coniferous wood, most often pine . Often appears on railway sleepers and other processed wood, as well as in dark coal mines, where fruiting bodies are often underdeveloped, resemble horned ones. It grows from July to August, individual copies can be celebrated from April to October.
