Zabelsky Dominican Collegium

The Zabelsky Dominican Collegium is an educational institution in the Zabely farm near the village of Volyntsy , today in the Verkhnedvinsk district of the Vitebsk region of Belarus , at the Dominican monastery of St. George, which existed in 1716-1838 . Based on landowner George Shield.

In 1787, 5 folvarkas were attached to the collegium (550 yards, 2575 male souls, with an income of 2547 rubles per year), in addition, the monks received another 30 rubles a year. (interest on capital) and 75 rubles. (church revenues) [1] .

In 1803 he was turned into a district school as part of the Vilna school district , in 1811 - into a gymnasium. In 1821, from the Zabelsk teachers, the Ministry of National Education of Russia received a proposal to create an academy with three faculties on the basis of the gymnasium, but the attempt was unsuccessful.

The teaching staff was sparse. In 1802, there were only six teachers and eighty students.

When the collegium acted, the first school theater in Eastern Europe [2] . Teachers Michal Tetersky (author of the plays “Doctor under duress”, “Themistocles”, “Comedy”, “Marriage put upside down by harlequin tricks” and libretto of the Apollo-legislator, or Reformed Parnassus), Ignatius Yurevich (author of the play “Krez” »І« Pyshnogolsky ») and others were authors of stage dialogues and works of various literary genres.
