Biography

Born on May 2, 1941 in the village of Dargo, Vedeno district, Chechen-Ingushetia. February 23, 1944 was deported .

In 1957, the family returned to their homeland. Muhadi continued his studies at Darginsky high school. In 1965 he graduated from the Natural Geography Department of the Chechen-Ingush State Pedagogical Institute . After graduation, he was left at the department of botany of the university as an assistant .

In 1973 he graduated from graduate school at the Kirov Leningrad Forestry Academy under the direction of Professor A. A. Yatsenko-Khmelevsky at the Department of Plant Anatomy and Physiology . In the same year and in the same university he defended his thesis “Anatomical structure of wood of some high-altitude woody plants of the East Caucasus”. After defending his dissertation, he returned to the Department of Botany of the Chechen-Ingush State University, where he worked successively as an assistant, senior lecturer, assistant professor, head of the department of botany.

In 1981-1990, he participated in research according to the research plans of the USSR Academy of Sciences and the "Regional Program of the Interagency Coordinating Council for 1987-1990" and together with scientists from the Institute of Wood Chemistry of the Latvian Academy of Sciences .

In 1992, at St. Petersburg University, he defended his doctoral dissertation, “Ways of Adaptation of the Conducting Fabric of Tree-Shrub Plants to Mountain Habitats.” In 1993 he became a professor. In 1992-2008 he was the head of the Department of Botany.

In 1992 he became a corresponding member, and in 1996 - an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Chechen Republic. Twice elected vice president of the Chechen Academy of Sciences.

In 2001-2003 he was the head of the department and at the same time vice-rector for scientific and organizational work of the university. In this, quality exerted a lot of efforts to revive science, the student and scientific community, restore the university’s scientific contacts with other Russian universities, and improve the educational process.

Since 2001, when the Comprehensive Scientific Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences was established , Umarov heads the Ecology laboratory under him, where the main attention is paid to state analysis and issues of improving the quality of the environment. The laboratory staff prepared the "Concept for the ecological improvement of the environment of the Chechen Republic", which was approved by the government of Chechnya.

From 2004 to the present, he is the head of the Danish-Chechen partnership project "Study of the genetic resources of medicinal plants of the Chechen Republic." The project provides for the expansion of educational and scientific ties between the Copenhagen Pharmaceutical Academy and the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry of ChSU.

Since 2004, organizes and leads the scientific seminar "Problems of Ecology, Rational Use and Protection of the Chechen Republic" (a joint seminar of the laboratories "Flora and Fauna of the Chechen Republic" of the Academy of Sciences of the Chechen Republic and "Ecology" of the KNII RAS).

He is the head of the scientific laboratory Flora and Fauna of the Czech Republic. The laboratory is engaged in the analysis of the flora of the republic, preparation of the list of flora and cadastre of wildlife in the Chechen Republic. Umarov is the responsible editor of the Red Book of the Chechen Republic.

His research interests include ecology, environmental anatomy, morphology, adaptation of plants to natural and man-made environments. He published about a hundred scientific and seven methodological works, made more than 80 reports at various levels of scientific forums. On his initiative, a collection of "Scientific projects on the most pressing problems of the Chechen Republic" was prepared for publication at Chechen State University, which included 9 projects compiled by him personally and with co-authors. His students defended five master's theses.
