Hans-Jörg Gudegast ( German: Hans-Jörg Gudegast ; born April 3, 1941 [1] ) is a German and American film and television actor, winner of the Emmy Day Prize [1] [2] . Gained fame for his role as Victor Newman in the soap opera Young and the Bold .

Biography
Hans-Jörg Gudegast was born in Bredenbeck , Germany [1] . In 1959, his family immigrated to the United States. In Missoula, the future actor graduated from the University of Montana.
Career
At the beginning of his career, Gudegast appeared mainly in episodes of television series, such as “Hour of Reckoning”, “Rat Patrol”, “Vertical Take-Off”. American booking agent Lew Wasserman advised the actor to take a stage name, because he risks never getting the main role in films because of his German name [3] . After reflection, Hans Gudegast became Eric Braden. In 1971, the actor played the role of Dr. Otto Hasslin in the film “ Flight from the Planet of the Apes ” directed by Don Taylor. During the 1970s, Braden was a guest actor on shows such as The Six Million Dollar Man, The Mary Tyler Moore Show , and The Smoke from the Trunk . In 1977, Eric Braden played Bruno von Stikl in the movie "The Monte Carlo Robbery."
In 1980, the actor was offered the role of tycoon Victor Newman in the soap opera Young and the Bold . It was originally planned that the character of Braden will be temporary, but he was so fond of the audience that the contract with the actor was extended. In 1998, Braden received a daily Emmy Award for this role. In 1997, he played John Jacob Astor IV in the movie Titanic .
In 2007, the actor received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
In 2008, Braden starred in the independent film The Man Who Returned, directed by Glenn Peter. In October 2009, in an interview, the actor said that he decided to leave “Young and the Bold,” but after negotiations with the studio the contract was renewed.
