Fish-preserving floating base - an expeditionary fishing vessel designed to receive freshly caught fishing objects ( fish , crab , shrimp, and so on) from fishing (fishing) vessels , with the aim of further processing into canned products , fishmeal and fat , as well as the subsequent delivery of finished products to port Canned products produced in the fishing area at fish canning floating bases have better taste and nutritional qualities than the products of coastal enterprises made from thawed ( defrosted ) fresh-frozen fish [1] .
Fish canning floating bases are sometimes called floating factories (floating factories).

History
The development of the expeditionary fishing of crabs , saury , sardine , mackerel and other seafood in the middle of the 20th century led to the beginning of the construction of canned fish floating bases [1] .
Description
The technological equipment of the fish canning floating base includes fish processing machines as part of mechanized lines for cutting fish and the further production of canned fish and caviar, as well as installations for the release of fish meal and fat from industrial waste. The production potential of large canned fish floating bases reaches 450 thousand cans per day. Refrigeration ( refrigerator ) units provide:
- pre-cooling fresh fish,
- storage of canned food at the required temperatures,
- ice production for technological needs.
Fishmeal is stored in uncooled holds , and fat is stored in special ship’s tanks [1] .
As part of the expeditionary craft, large floating depots serve 1-2 receiving and transporting vessels, refrigerating vessels and up to 10-12 fishing vessels, and a flotilla can be served by a bulk vessel (tanker).
In turn, the fish canning base in provides fishing vessels with fuel , fresh water and other supplies, as well as provides a cultural program and medical care for their crews [1] .
