Biography

Alexey Abalmasov was born on June 20, 1980 in Taganrog , Rostov Region , but subsequently moved to the Belarusian city of Borisov . He began to actively engage in kayaking at the age of thirteen, was trained at the Minsk Regional Specialized Children and Youth School of the Olympic Reserve and at the Republican Center for Olympic Training, was a member of the sports club of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Belarus, and was a member of the Dynamo Volunteer Sports Society , training with such specialists as A. V. Bykov and D. M. Goshko.

In juniors, already in 1998 he won bronze at the Youth World Championships in the Swedish city of Nykoping, taking third place in the four-meter kayak races of a thousand meters. In 2000, he visited the European Youth Championship in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, from where he immediately brought three gold medals won in doubles per kilometer and fours in kilometer and half kilometer races.

He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in 2001, when he won two bronze medals at the adult European Championship in Milan, in a four-seater carriage with Roman Petrushenko , Alexei Skurkovsky and Vadim Makhnev at distances of 500 and 1000 meters, thereby fulfilling the requirements of the master of sports of international class. A year later, at the World Championships in Spanish Seville, he became the silver medalist in the four-kilometer four-kilometer race. In 2004, he won silver at the European Championship in Poznan, Poland, and thanks to a series of successful performances, he won the right to defend the country's honor at the Athens Summer Olympics . Together with the four partners Petrushenko, Makhnev and Demyan Turchin, he was able to reach the final stage of the kilometer program, but finished only sixth in the decisive race.

In 2005, Abalmasov received a silver award at the European Championships in Poznan, fours at five hundred meters, and also won bronze and gold at the World Championships in Croatian Zagreb, fours at two hundred and five hundred meters respectively. The following season he became the gold and silver medalist of the continent’s championship in Czech Rachitsa, in the classification of four-seater kayaks at distances of 200 and 1000 meters, in addition, he finished third in the world championship in Szeged, one thousand meters. In 2007, he confined himself to silver from the European Championships in the Spanish Pontevedra, taking second place in the four hundred four-meter race. In 2008, he won bronze at the European Championship in Milan and later qualified for the Beijing Olympics . In the kilometer program, four-person kayaks won a gold medal, overtaking all other boats (in addition to Petrushenko and Makhnev, his partner was Arthur Litvinchuk ). For this outstanding achievement at the end of the season, he was awarded the honorary title “ Honored Master of Sports of the Republic of Belarus ” [1] .

Having become the Olympic champion, Alexey Abalmasov remained in the main team of the Belarusian national team and continued to participate in major international regattas. So, in 2009 he made a gold double: in the kilometer-long standings the four-kayaks won gold at the European Championships in German Brandenburg and at the World Championships in Canadian Dartmouth. The following year he added silver to the track record from the World Championships in Poznan, took second place in his crown discipline K-4 1000 m. In 2011, he successfully performed at the World Cup, hoping to get to the Olympic Games in London, however, Belarus did not receive an Olympic license in the four-seater kayak program, and soon Abalmasov decided to end his career as a professional athlete [2] .

He has two higher educations, graduated from the International Humanitarian-Economic Institute and in 2009 the Belarusian State University of Physical Education , where he studied at the Department of Water-Technical Sports. After completing his sports career, he continued to serve in the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, was a senior lieutenant, and then switched to coaching - the highest category coach in the republican center for Olympic training. He was awarded the Order of the Fatherland III degree [3] .
