I cohort

I cohort of suniks ( lat. Cohors I Sunicorum ) - an auxiliary unit of the army of Ancient Rome.

This unit was formed from suniks, a Germanic tribe that lived near the Rhine in Upper Germany , possibly by Quintus Petillius Tserial in 69 to suppress the Batav uprising . Cohort, apparently, then went with Tserial to Britain, where, together with the XX Valeriy Victorious Legion, she participated in the campaign against the brigants . In 77–78 years, the cohort under the command of Gnei, Julia Agricola took part in campaigns against the Ordovician and was stationed in Segontia (Kernarfron, Gwynedd , Wales ). Mentioned in a number of military diplomas related to the years 122, 124, 127 and 132.

Cohort, presumably, participated in the British campaigns of Emperor Hadrian to protect the northern border of the province of Britain, participated in the operation to suppress the rebellion of the brigants, which occurred during the reign of Antoninus Pius .

In 193, like all other Roman military units in Britain, the cohort supported the claimant to the imperial throne, Claudius Albinus , who was defeated by Septimius Severus in 196. Under his leadership, the cohort participated in the next campaign of Britain between 202 and 210. At this time, cohort soldiers restored the aqueduct in Segontia. There is no further information about the cohort.
