Biography
Sergei Petrovich Duchenne was born on January 29, 1857 [1] . Representative of a noble family.
Studying and starting service in the fleet
In 1878 he graduated from the Naval College with a prize named after P. S. Nakhimov [2] and was promoted to midshipman . From April 1878 to September 1881 he participated in circumnavigation on the Dzhigit clipper .
In November 1884 he graduated from the shipbuilding department of the Nikolaev Maritime Academy . In 1884-1885, he was involved in the construction of the Rynda armored corvette on the Galerny Island in St. Petersburg , at the shipyard of the Society of Franco-Russian Plants. On April 17, 1885 he was seconded to the Main Naval Headquarters (GMSH), from January 1, 1896 - the junior clerk of the lower salary of the GMSh, from February 18, 1886 - the junior clerk of the highest salary of the GMSh [1] .
From May 21 to August 20, 1887 he participated in the voyage on the steamer Dnepr flag captain commander of the skerry detachment of the Practical Squadron Rear Admiral P. P. Tyrtov .
Service at the General Naval Headquarters
On January 1, 1892 he was appointed junior adjutant of the State School of Music, and from February 1892, he was a permanent member of the commission at the library of the Ministry of the Sea . From January 1, 1895, he served as senior clerk of the highest salary of the State Medical School, and from December 1895, he served as the senior clerk of the highest salary of the General Public School. On February 2, 1904, Colonel Admiralty S.P. Duchenne was appointed Head of the Legislative Section of the Main Naval Headquarters. In 1905 he was promoted to major general in the Navy. He took an active part in the development and implementation of reforms in the Russian Navy after the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905. On March 9, 1909, he was the acting head of the Main Directorate of Shipbuilding and Supplies , in the position approved on December 6, 1909, promoted to lieutenant general in the Navy. He prepared the implementation of the "Big Program" for the construction of ships of the Russian Imperial Navy. Since April 18, 1911 - a member of the Main Naval Court, since December 24, 1914 its chairman. March 22, 1915 promoted to generals in the Navy.
After the February Revolution , on March 31, 1917, at the direction of A. I. Guchkov, he resigned. On April 13, 1917, retired. In September 1918 he was taken by the Bolsheviks as a hostage, died (killed?) In prison [1] .
