Cessna 560XL crash in Santos is a plane crash that occurred on August 13, 2014 in Santos ( Brazil , São Paulo ). There were seven people on board: two crew members and five passengers, including Eduardo Kampush , the presidential candidate in the 2014 general election , the national leader of the Socialist Party , the governor of Pernambuco . All of them died [1] . It was planned that the former senator and vice-presidential candidate Marina Silva will also take this flight, but later she refused [2] . This disaster can change the outcome of the elections and the political future of the country [3] , since after the death of Kampush, Silva got the opportunity to become a new candidate for president [4] .

Content
Circumstances
On August 13, 2014, at 9 o’clock in the morning, the Cessna 560XL Citation Excel private airline, AF Andrade Empreendimentos e Participações Ltda [5], flew from Santos Dumont Airport to Rio de Janeiro . Due to bad weather conditions before landing at the Santos air base [6] [7] , namely, fog, wind at 12 km / h and a wet landing strip [8] , the plane went into the second round, communication with it was lost in 9:23 am local time [9] , after which at about 10:00 [10] the plane crashed into two residential buildings [11] and Santos Gymnasium [12] , breaking through the walls of several houses [13] . Witnesses reported that the plane caught fire several minutes before the accident and tried to dodge buildings [14] .
Consequences
All 7 people aboard the plane died [15] , namely the former Governor of Pernambuco and the Socialist Party candidate for President of Brazil from the Socialist Party in the upcoming elections on October 5, Eduardo Campos [16] [17] , adviser to Pedro Almeida Valadares Neto, press officer Carlos Augusto Ramos Lil Filo, photographer Alexander Severo Gomez i Silva, employee of the electoral headquarters of Marcelo de Oliveira Lira, two pilots Marcos Martins and Geraldo Cugna [18] . The identification of the remains will be carried out by examining the dental records and DNA. The military is conducting a search for the aircraft's black box [19] .
Residents of local houses were taken to the hospital with injuries [20] [21] [22] , in particular, of the six people, one was released immediately, five others are in the hospital with minor injuries: two - children 1 year and 9 years old, three women - one of advanced age [18] .
Investigation
In the Department of Public Relations of the company-owner of the aircraft, it was reported that there were bad weather conditions at the landing site, after which the control services lost contact with the aircraft. An investigation into the disaster was reported [23] . On August 15, a “black box” of the aircraft was found, but no records were found on it except one, which had nothing to do with what had happened. Brazilian Air Force spokesman Pedro Luis Farsic said record time has not yet been set [24]
Reaction
- Brazil :
Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff canceled all campaign activities planned for the next three days [25] and declared a three-day mourning throughout the country [26] . She expressed condolences to the wife of Campos Renata and her son Miguel, saying that “today we lost the great Brazilian, Eduard Campos. We have lost a great comrade ”, and calling him“ a great political leader ” [27] .
Brazil's vice president Michel Temer said there are “no words to describe the tragedy that has hit Brazilian politics today. Eduardo Kampush was a politician with principles and values that were transmitted to him through his family and implemented with dignity and honor throughout his career in parliament and the executive branch ” [28] .
Kampush could have put up real resistance to Rusef in the election, because he made an alliance with former presidential candidate Marina Silva and, according to polls, could get up to 10% of the vote [29] . The Socialist Party was given 10 days to nominate another candidate [30] . A few days later, Silva was nominated [31] , and her adviser, Bazileu Margarida, emphasized that the candidacy was now to be approved by the party’s supreme council at a meeting on August 20 [32] .

Marie Harf , deputy head of the US State Department press service, said that “we are saddened by this tragedy and express our deepest condolences to his family and friends” [33] .
- Russia :
Russian President Vladimir Putin in his message to Rousseff said, “Please accept my deepest condolences on the occasion of the plane crash in the city of Santos, which resulted in the deaths of people, including a prominent politician, presidential candidate in Brazil, Eduardo Campos. I ask you to convey the words of sympathy and support to the families and friends of the victims, as well as the wishes of a speedy recovery for the victims ” [34] .
