Gameplay
The player begins the game by saving the drowning man and woman. After the player brings them to the "Promised Land", they will begin to build a tent. Soon they will have a “worker” who will build another tent and live there. Using this strategy, the player will explore the world and increase the population. The main feature of the game is that the player can change the ground levels at his request. Different levels need more Faith than usual. The player will be able to explore at least one more world after finding a particular ship. To do this, the player needs to collect enough resources to restore it [2] .
Definitions
In the game you fulfill the role of God and control people. People are called "Believers." Believers can be builders, miners, farmers, or producers.
The producer is a passive character, produces faith. Needs no management.
Builder - builds on the allotments of the building. You can send several builders to one plot to speed up construction.
Miner - creates mines on allotments and extracts ore. Extends gems in the mountains (after opening the “gem mine” card).
Farmer - creates fields on allotments and grows wheat.
Level . Earth consists of soil levels. The larger the population, the higher levels are available for buildings. Higher levels become available for buildings after opening maps.
Put on - a piece of land on a flat surface (on the same level). Believers are sent to plots to create buildings. Farmers are breaking up fields, builders are creating houses, miners are digging mines. The larger the free plot of land, the larger the size of the plot.
Development
Game designer Peter Molyneux and his 22Cans studio made an effort to Godus . [3] The game is the spiritual successor to Populous , [4] and is inspired by titles such as Dungeon Keeper and Black & White [5] . Peter Molyneux left his post at Microsoft in March 2012 to move to 22Cans [6] . With a team of 20, the studio released its first game, Curiosity - What's Inside the Cube? , November 6, 2012. After that, work began on Godus [6] . The player will reign as a virtual god and control other characters, that is, his believers.
22Cans launched a campaign on Kickstarter , setting a goal: to raise £ 450,000 by December 20, 2012 [1] . 22Cans planned to release a prototype of the game on December 13, 2012, in an attempt to attract more supporters to their Kickstarter campaign [3] . At the end of the campaign, £ 526,563 was raised [5] . On September 13, 2013, Godus was released on Steam in early access as a beta [7] .
The iOS version of the game was released on August 7, 2014 [8] , the Android version was released on November 27, 2014 [9] .
Criticism
Eurogamer's Tom Bramwell expressed concern that successful game developers are funding their projects with Kickstarter.
Additional criticisms were made regarding the distribution model of the iOS and Android versions of the game. Also, the players reacted negatively to the failure to fulfill the promise of the developers, and demanded a refund or apology, which was also not fulfilled.
