History
The Kosheen project was born in the late 90s, in the port city of Bristol - a kind of capital of trip-hop and drum and bass movement. It is worth mentioning at least such names as Massive Attack , Portishead , Tricky , Earthling - all of them come from Bristol. It was in this small town, open to all the winds, Marks Substens and Darren Decoder first heard the voice of Shan Evans. Amazed everyone with its penetration and charm, Shan became the main link in the way of the group’s ascent in the world of dance music. The newly made trio was able to realize their desires almost immediately and give the world something stunning. Today it is already safe to say that this “something” is the music in the Kosheen style.
For Shan Evans, a success story began in his native Wales . Even in her teens, she created vocal parts for her many local jazz bands and r & b groups with her unique voice. Soon, the progressive energy of dance music conquered Shang, took possession of her voice, and literally infected the young girl with "club" enthusiasm. Interrupted by various side jobs, she continued to give her vocals to many dance tracks, and at the same time composed many songs paired with her old acoustic guitar.
Since then, things have gone differently in Shan's life, her musical horizons have expanded and she moved to Bristol, where the story of the Kosheen collective began.
Prior to the formation of the group, Darren Decoder and Marky Substens performed drum and bass in various punk bands, but one day they accidentally, while staying with a friend in a recording studio, heard the penetrating voice of Shan Evans.
Kosheen , once in the studio, began to masterly control their own beat, vocals, bass lines and melodies. Shan wrote songs that were soon interpreted into vibrant electronic opuses. The huge musical potential manifested itself in a large number of songs, including the already mentioned drum and bass anthem “Hide U” : the single by which the group announced its appearance in the music world. This work dealt a powerful shock to the music industry. The single “Catch” that followed was another fact that confirmed the success of the team. With the release of the third single, no one doubted that Kosheen was moving to the peak of its musical fame. The work “(Slip & Slide) Suicide” erased all doubts, and the Kosheen group gained worldwide fame!
Three singles set the stage for the release of the album. The debut disc of the band " Resist " dotted all the "i", and did not leave indifferent any fan of Kosheen's work.
The band’s second album, “ Kokopelli ” , turned out to be very diverse in terms of music, and in terms of mood much darker and more tragic compared to the debut disc.
After a three-year hiatus, Kosheen once again demonstrate their extraordinaryness. The release in 2007 of the album “Damage” is the next one step of the collective to conquer the musical Olympus. "Damage" - a kind of collection of electronic ballads. This is the progress of the group, this is its unique taste. Indefatigable in their work, Kosheen has already proved their musical abilities to the whole world, and found their original style.
Independence's fourth studio album was released on October 1, 2012. And the last album to date was released in 2013 - Solitude.
In October 2015, Kosheen gave their last concert, and in early 2016 the group officially broke up.
