At the Venice Film Festival in the competition of children's films, the picture received the “Bronze Lion of St. Mark” (1962).

In 2009, the tape was shown in Paris as part of the film festival "Europe Around Europe".

Story

The boy ( Nikolai Burlyaev ) loves to follow the flight of birds in the sky. In the poultry market, a pigeon approaches him and offers a "postal, spring, clockwork" pigeon for 100 rubles. The boy does not have such money, and he brings the seller an album with rare stamps.

Having let go of the gray-winged, the boy is counting on his return. But the dove, having made several circles in the air, flies away to the previous owner. In an effort to return the bird, the boy gives the blueberry plate and a jar of goldfish. He, having accepted the gifts, advises taming the pigeon. The boy ties the bird to the cord, but such a flight almost ends in its death.

Then the boy rises to the roof and lets the dove free.

Movie Story

The tape was a term paper of the student of the Institute of Cinematography Andrei Konchalovsky. The director saw the schoolboy Nikolai Burlyaev on the street and immediately called in his film. The actor himself later called Konchalovsky his “godfather in cinema” [1] .

Golubyatnik was played by actor Vladimir Shurupov, who, after filming, invited Nikolai Burlyaev to the role of a teenager in the Mossovet Theater .

I still have a photograph. <...> We are three laureates who have just brought prizes from Venice. Tarkovsky - for " Ivan's childhood ", Karasik - for the " Wild Dog of the Dingo " and I - for the short film "The Boy and the Pigeon", my course work of WG.
- Andrey Konchalovsky [2]

For Yevgeny Urbansky , who played the role of a loader from a store, there were only two frames in the film, however, according to the director, “he didn’t refuse - there were friends” [2] .

The picture was sent to a competition of children's films in Venice, where she was given the Bronze Lion. When this news came, Konchalovsky urgently issued documents and sent to Italy for the award [2] .

Reviews and reviews

Film critic Yevgeny Margolit , listing the best films about children on the pages of the magazine “ Cinema Art ”, names, among others, Andrei Konchalovsky's debut work “The Boy and the Dove” [3] .

According to the cameraman Vadim Yusov , already during the first viewing of this picture one could see a very gifted director [4] .

Film critic Viktor Filimonov in the book “Andrei Konchalovsky. Nobody knows ... ”notes that the tape was in a thawing trend, and the boy’s craving for the sky was dictated by“ an unaccountable hope of defeating restlessness. ” The boy gives all his unspent love to the dove and its free soaring ” [5] .
