Rashid ad-Din Sinan , also known as the elder of the mountains (1132 or 1135 - 1192) - was the leader of the Ismaili religious sect (a branch of Nizari ) in Syria and was a historical figure of the Crusades . Latin sources from the State of the Crusaders call it Vetulus de Montanis , which comes from the Arab title of Sheikh al-Jabal, meaning "sage or elder of the mountain."

In culture
Rashid ad-Din Sinan appears in Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed: Revelations games as a teacher of assassins. It is noteworthy that all the heroes of the game, including the enemies of the Assassins - the Templars, call Rashid "Al-Mualim", which means "teacher".
Biography
Born in Basra , Iraq, and died in Massif , Syria. In accordance with the autobiographical records, of which only fragmentary records have survived, Rashid arrived in Alamut , the center of the Khashashins in his youth, and received the education of the Hashashin. In 1162, the leader of the sect, Hassan II, sent him to Syria, where he proclaimed the teachings of Kiyama, which in Nizari terminology meant Qaim's time and a departure from Islamic law . Based in the Nizari fortress of Masyaf, he controlled the northern Syrian districts of Jabal as-Summaq, Maareth -Misrin and Sarmin .
