Career

At the 1973 World Championships, Naples, Valentin Mankin and Vladislav Akimenko, speaking in the Tempest class, became the first world sailing champions in the history of the USSR.

At the 1976 Olympics, Akimenko, along with Valentin Mankin, won a silver medal in the Tempest class [1] .

In the period from 1978 to 1985, Sergey Borodinov, Vladislav Akimenko, was the “playing” crew coach in the Flying Dutchman class. Since 1979, the crew has been a member of the USSR national sailing team, repeatedly becoming champions of the USSR, winners of major international regattas, prize winners of the World and European Championships, and World Cup winners.

In the period from 1989 to 1991, he was invited by VG Mankin to the USSR national team as a senior coach of the Flying Dutchman class , coached by George Shayduko’s crew - Viktor Budantsev, who during this time became a multiple champion of the USSR, and in 1990 became the winner in the open championship of Europe.

In the 2001–2004 Olympic cycle, he was elected and approved by the Head Coach of the Russian national sailing team [2] .

He held the position of head of the department of the theory and methodology of sailing in the NSU. PF Lesgaft .

Lives in St. Petersburg.
