"Whisper of Angels" ( eng. A Rumor of Angels ) - American feature film directed by Peter O'Fellon with Ray Liotta , Vanessa Redgrave and Catherine McCormack in the lead roles. The story is based on the Grace Duffy Boylan novel written in 1918, "Your Son is Alive: Messages from a Soldier to His Mother." And although the novel tells the story of a mother whose son died during the First World War , the film takes place at the end of the 20th century [1] .

Story
The twelve-year-old boy James (Trevor Morgan) lives in a small coastal town with his father Nathan (Ray Liotta) and stepmother Mary (Catherine McCormack). He lost his mother in a car accident two years ago. The memories of the accident still haunt him and make him panic in place. He was not able to share his feelings with someone about the accident and the death of his mother, because his father is always away from home, and he does not want to discuss it with his stepmother.
Once, playing behind the house of Maddie Bennet (Vanessa Redgrave), he accidentally breaks her fence. Maddie demands that he fix it. Soon they become good friends. Maddy lost her son Bobby in 1974 during the Vietnam War . She tells James about her feelings after losing her son. She makes James talk about his mother and face her fears and fears. She also tells James that her son Bobby is talking to her.
James's parents do not like these stories Maddie, and they forbid him to communicate with her. James is very upset about the "loss" of his friend. Meanwhile, Maddie suffers a heart attack, and James's parents allow him to care for her until she recovers. Maddy is recovering, but soon dies. After that, James reconciles with his stepmother and his father, who now communicates with him much more.

Shooting
The film takes place in Maine , but the film was shot in Lunenberg , in the province of Nova Scotia (Canada) . The film was first shown in September 2000 at the Toronto International Film Festival , but in the United States, the film was first shown only in 2002.
