Chairman of the UN Security Council

The chairman of the UN Security Council is the head of the UN Security Council , a position held for a month by the head of the delegation of one of the member states of the Security Council. The position was created by Article 30 of the UN Charter ^[1] . According to the “Provisional Rules of Procedure of the Security Council” ^[2] , a monthly rotation of the position between members of the Security Council in alphabetical order according to the English name of the country is established. At least once every two weeks, the chairperson, if necessary or at the request of a member of the Council, convenes meetings of the Security Council (except for two periodic meetings per year) ^[3] .

The chairman opens and leads Security Council meetings and signs the official records of the Council ^[4] .
