Biological Description
Epiphytic shrubs with a tuber-like thickened base of the stem penetrated by the numerous cavities inhabited by ants . Due to the fact that rotting of plant and animal debris accumulated by ants takes place in the cavities, myrmecody receives additional mineral substances. The cavities themselves are formed without the participation of ants, and are not gnawed by them, as was originally thought [4] . Outside, the tuberous stalk of myrmecodia is covered with subordinate roots (in some species they are turned into thorns).
Shoots are short, tetrahedral, with opposite leaves.
The flowers are small, white; the fruit is the berry [3] .
