The son of Pietro Grimani and Catherine Morozini, was a well-educated man and a famous poet, one of Venice's most calm doges. During his reign, he showed himself to be a generous patron and promoter of art and science.

Life and government

Pietro Grimani, a very rich and unmarried young man, decided to devote his life to a diplomatic career, which he pursued in France and England, where he met many famous personalities, including Isaac Newton. June 30, 1741 Pietro Grimani became a doge, beating the other candidates by 26 votes. His policy was aimed at a revival in the field of art and the development of science with the help of state subsidies and personal protection. For more than 12 years of his reign (that is, the election took place in 1741), he showed wise rule and proved to be very capable in public affairs.
