Transport
The port of Douglas is the island's most important port. The port of Douglas is the only port on the island with regular ferry services (with the UK and Ireland ), as well as the only port on the island that can receive skaters . In addition to freight, the port serves fishing vessels. There are also moorings for yachts (marina) [2] .
The nearest airport (Ronaldsway Airport) is located south of Douglas, near Castletown.
Douglas has the terminal stations of the island’s two most important railways — the Isle of Man South Railroad to Castletown and Port Irin , and the Electric Rail (actually a long-distance tram ) that runs north to Luxy and Ramsey .
In Douglas, there is the only horse tram line in the world operating in the urban public transport mode. In 2016, it was decided to liquidate the line that caused losses. However, after collecting signatures for the online petition, the tram was resumed [3] [4] .
Highways connect Douglas with the cities of Peel in the west of the island (road A1) and Ramsey in the north (road A2).
