Club career
Mercado is a graduate of the Racing Club in Avellaneda. On February 21, 2007, in the match against San Lorenzo , he made his debut in the Argentine Example . On November 30, 2009, in a duel against Banfield , Gabriel scored his first goal for Racing [2] .
In 2010, 50% of the rights to a football player for 800 thousand dollars acquired Estudiantes [3] . On August 7, in the match against the Newells Old Boys , Mercado made his debut for the club from La Plata [4] . On September 12, in a duel against his former Racing team, he scored his first goal for Estudiantes [5] . In the same year in Gabriel became the champion of Argentina .
In 2012, Mercado moved to River Plate . On August 6, in the match against Belgrano , he debuted for a new club [6] . On September 16, 2013, in a duel against Arsenal from Sarandi, Gabriel scored his first goal for River [7] . In 2014, Mercado won the Argentine Supercup and became the country's champion for the second time.

International Career
In 2007, as part of the Argentina national youth team, Mercado became the winner of the Youth World Championship in Canada .
February 11, 2010 in a friendly match against the national team of Jamaica, Gabriel made his debut for the national team of Argentina [10] .
On March 25, 2016, in the qualifying match for the 2018 World Cup against Chile, Mercado scored the first goal for the national team [11] . In the summer of the same year, Gabriel won the silver medal at the America's Cup in the United States . In the tournament he played in matches against the teams of Panama [12] , USA [13] , Venezuela [14] and twice Chile [15] [16] .
In 2018, Mercado took part in the World Cup in Russia . In the tournament he played in matches against teams from Croatia [17] , Nigeria [18] and France [19] . In a duel against the French, Gabriel scored a goal.
