Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 2,307.692 km 2 , of which 2,263.662 km 2 are land and 44,030 km 2 or 1.920% are water bodies.

Population

According to the 2000 census [1] , the district is home to 43,182 residents of 17,463 households and 12,590 families . The population density is 19.00 people per km 2 . There are 19 854 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of about 9.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 88.37%, African - Americans - 2.20%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 4.92%, Asians - 0.30%, Hawaiians - 0.03%, representatives of other races - 1.44 %, representatives of two or more races - 2.74%. Hispanics made up 3.96% of the population, regardless of race .

Out of the total number of households , 30.40% are children under the age of 18, 59.50% of households are married couples living together, 9.20% of households are single women without a spouse, 27.90% of households households are not related to families , 25.30% of households consist of one person, 12.80% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.44 people and the average family size is 2.91 people.

The age structure of the district: 24.60% under the age of 18, 7.80% from 18 to 24, 25.10% from 25 to 44, 24.00% from 45 to 64 and 24.00% from 65 and older. The average age of a resident of the district is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 93.70 males . For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.70 males .

The average household income in the district was 30 709 USD , per family - 36 371 USD . The average male earnings were 30,428 USD against 20,055 USD for a woman . The per capita income was $ 16,357. About 11.60% of families and 14.60% of the total population were below the poverty line , including 19.50% of young people (those who were not yet 18 years old) and 11.90% of those who were already over 65 years old .
