History
Initially, these places were part of Layan County (莱阳 县). After the Shandong Peninsula was occupied by the Japanese in 1938, anti-Japanese authorities were formed here in 1940. In 1941, the eastern part of the county was allocated to a separate county, Laidong (莱阳 县, "east Layan"). In 1942, the southwestern part of the county was separated into a separate county, Laysinan (莱西 南县, “southwest Layan”).
In 1950, Laiyang and Laysinan counties were merged into Laysi County (莱西 县), which was part of the newly created Laiyang Special Region (莱阳 专区) (at that, Laidong County was renamed to Laiyang). In 1958, the Laiyang Special Region was renamed the Yantai Special Region (烟台 专区), and the Laiyi County was annexed to the Laiyang County. In 1962, Lacy County was recreated. In 1967, the Yantai Special District was renamed the Yantai County (烟台 地区). In 1983, Lixi County was transferred under the jurisdiction of Qingdao.
By the Decree of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China of December 18, 1990, Lacy County was transformed into a city county from February 1, 1991.
Administrative Division
