Basketball at the 2000 Summer Olympics (women)

Women's basketball competitions at the 2000 Summer Olympics were held from September 16 to 30 . They were attended by 12 teams of 12 people. In the final, the US team defeated the Australian team with a score of 76-54, won the gold medals of the Olympics. Bronze medal went to the Brazilian national team.

Event Format

  • The twelve teams are divided into two groups of 6 each.
  • The teams that took the first four places in the groups go to the playoffs.
  • Teams that took fifth places in groups participate in the match 9th place.
  • Teams that took sixth places in groups participate in the match of the 11th place.
  • Quarter-final pairs are formed as follows: A1 - B4, A2 - B3, A3 - B2, A4 - B1.
    • The teams that lost in the quarter finals participate in matches for the 5th and 7th places.
  • The teams that won the semifinals reach the final, the losers take part in the match for the 3rd place.
