Club career
Born in Leningrad and at an early age moved to Latvia . He spent his youth career at the Youth and Youth Sports School Ilukste and Siebens / Zemessardze . In 2002, he signed a professional contract with the Riga Club. Zhigaev spent 6 years in it, having played 118 matches and scored 17 goals. After the capital team was declared bankrupt, Yuri signed a contract with Ventspils [4] . In the new club, he spent 46 matches and scored 24 goals [5] . December 3, 2010 Zhigaev moved to the Polish " Vidzev " [6] . Due to prolonged injuries, Yuri spent only 5 matches in the “Red Army” and in 2012 returned to Ventspils [7] .
Team Career
The debut for the national team of Latvia took place on October 13, 2007 in the qualifying match of the European Championship 2008 against the national team of Iceland (2-4) [8] . The last match at the moment was played on March 31, 2015 against Ukraine.
In total, the player’s account has 35 matches for the national team (two of them are not recognized as official under the rules of FIFA ) and two goals.
