Austrian economy

Austria is one of the most developed countries in Europe . It is a member of the European Union (since 1995).
Almost all sectors of the economy are developed in the country, starting from tourism (about 15 million people visit the country annually) and ending with aerospace technologies. The main branches of industrial production are machine building (transport and agricultural), machine tool building and equipment manufacturing for other industries. Its main centers are the cities of Vienna , Graz , Linz and Steyr .

The main share in the country's economy is the service sector (65.8%). Industry accounts for 32.3%, and agriculture - 1.7%.

In 2002, the single currency, the Euro , was introduced. Austria maintains economic ties with 150 countries of the world .

To attract foreign firms, the Austrian Business Agency was created, which provides information on the economic situation in the country.

Agriculture

In Austria, agriculture is well developed. The basis of agriculture is dairy farming .

Also developed are viticulture , cereal production, pig farming and fruit growing . Sown areas occupy 4.1 million hectares (approximately half of the country's area)

Industry

The main center of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy is Ranshofen .

The basis of all light industry in Austria is textile , leather, shoe and sewing. The forestry, woodworking and pulp and paper industries are well developed.

The country also specializes in modern branches of the electrical and electronic industries. High technology and manufacturing are developing.

Trade

As a land country, Austria conducts trade with other countries, mainly exporting and importing goods by rail. Through the Danube River , which is of international importance, the country has access to the sea. The main ports on the river are Linz and Vienna.

Export items in Austrian trade are heavy industry products: equipment, machine tools, ferrous metals, as well as consumer goods (consumer goods) (about 1/2 of all exports), stationery and food. In 2009, exports totaled $ 129 billion.

The country imports mainly consumer goods , which account for about half of all imports, as well as finished products. The total value of imported goods in 2009 was 136 billion dollars.

About 2/3 (60.2% of exports and 65.8% of imports) of goods turnover falls on the EU countries. Germany is Austria's main trading partner, accounting for about 36.1% of its total turnover. The country also maintains close economic ties with Italy , France , Switzerland, and Hungary . Recently, the share of Eastern European countries in Austrian trade has been growing 17.5% of exports and 13.2% of imports (excluding CIS countries )

In 2009, the country's unemployment rate was 4.7%, and inflation - 0.4%

As of 2017, the average wage in Austria is € 2688 (gross) and € 1848 (net) per month.
