According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 1,401.191 km 2 , of which 1,367.521 km 2 are land and 33.670 km 2, or 2.320%, are water bodies.
Population
According to the 2000 census [1] , 12 968 residents of 5 137 households and 3 631 families live in the okrug. The population density is 9.00 people per km 2 . In the district there are 7 105 residential buildings, with a building density of about 5.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 66.33%, African - Americans - 1.70%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 29.03%, Asians - 0.15%, Hawaiians - 0.01%, representatives of other races - 0.49 %, representatives of two or more races - 2.28%. Hispanics made up 1.47% of the population, regardless of race .
Out of the total number of households , 30.00% are children under the age of 18 years, 52.30% of households are married couples living together, 13.90% of households are single women without a spouse, 29.30% of households households are not related to families , 25.80% of households consist of one person, 11.10% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.44 people and the average family size is 2.91 people.
The age structure of the district: 24.30% under the age of 18, 8.30% from 18 to 24, 26.70% from 25 to 44, 25.40% from 45 to 64, and 25.40% from 65 and older.
