Tauriel is a character in Peter Jackson ’s films “ The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug ” and “ The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies ”, which are part of the “ The Hobbit ” trilogy. In the original work of John R. R. Tolkien , on which films were shot, this character is absent. Tauriel is a forest elf , her name means "daughter of the Forest", she leads the elven guard. Her role was played by Canadian actress Evangeline Lilly .

The creators of the film Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh decided to introduce Tauriel in order to expand the world of elves and dilute the scenario in which men predominate with a female character [1] . She belongs to the trackers of the Forest Elves of Mirkwood , her social status is lower than that of other elves - Arwen , Galadriel , Elrond and Legolas [1] . As Evangeline Lilly said, her character is “only 600 years old, she's just a child” [2] .
In the movie
She helps the Dwarves when they are attacked by Spiderwood spiders, and saves the dwarf Keely from death. Dwarfs are captured by the Forest Elves of Mirkwood and thrown into the dungeon. Moreover, Tauriel herself takes Kili to prison and later communicates with him. Between them there is a clear sympathy, growing into unspoken romantic feelings. Then, at the time of the conversation between the chief of the guard and the king of the forest elves, Thranduil, the participant of the campaign of Thorin Oakenshield to Erebor, the hobbit Bilbo frees the dwarves from imprisonment and they try to escape in barrels along the river. The elves, on the orders of the dwarves who found out about the escape, Legolas and Tauriel try to stop the dwarves and are attacked by orcs led by Bolg. Tauriel enters the battle with the orcs and captures one of them, and then goes in search of Keely and, together with Legolas, is in Esgaroth. By that time, the gnomes and the hobbit were finding support in the Lake City and some of them, led by Thorin, including Bilbo, were sent to Lonely Mountain. Kili himself, wounded by an orc arrow in a battle with the orcs at Thranduil's palace, was forced to stay in the house of Bard the Archer. But he, along with other gnomes, and the Bard family are attacked by orcs and it was at that moment that Legolas and Tauriel came to the rescue. The elf heals Keely and, together with the dwarves and children of Bard, flees from Esgaroth, who was attacked by the dragon Smaug.
On the shore of Long Lake Kili, Tauriel confesses his love and begs her to follow him, he gives her an amulet, but she says goodbye to Kili and, together with Legolas, goes to Mount Gundabad, where the orcish leader Azog sent Bolga for help. The guardian chief and the son of Thranduil see the army of the orcs of Gundabad and rush to the Lonely Mountain, where the Battle of the Five Armies is already in full swing. Tauriel comes into conflict with Thranduil, as previously violated the ban of the forest elf king - not to leave the palace. She, together with Legolas, rises to raven height and engages in battle with the orcs and is attacked by Bolg, but Keely comes to the rescue. Bolg kills Thorin Oakenshield's nephew, but later perishes himself at the hands of Legolas. At the end of the battle, Tauriel is in grief over the deceased Keely, whom she managed to fall in love with during this time.
