Biography
Guglielmo Epifani was born in 1950 in Rome, the son of Giuseppe Epifani, the first post-war mayor of Cannara ( Liguria ). In 1953, the family moved to Milan , later Guglielmo returned to his hometown and studied at the Horace . In 1973 he graduated from the University of Rome La Sapienza , where he studied philosophy (wrote a thesis on Anna Kulisheva ), then joined as a functionary at the VICT . From 1974 to 1978 he was engaged in scientific research at the Department of Modern History of the University of Rome. In the mid-70s, he took over the leadership of the publishing house WICT Editrice sindacato italiano (ESI). From 1979 to 1990, he headed the FILPC Printing and Paper Workers' Union, in 1990 he entered the WICT secretariat, from 1994 to 2002 he was the Deputy General Secretary of the WICT, Sergio Kofferati , from 2002 to 2010 - the General Secretary [1] .
Until 1994, he was a member of the Italian Socialist Party , in 1998-2007 - the Party of Left Democrats , then joined the Democratic Party .
In the parliamentary elections of 2013, he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies from the Democratic Party, since May 7, 2013 he headed the Xth Commission (production activities, trade and tourism) [2] .
From March 11 to December 15, 2013 he was the national secretary of the Democratic Party.
In 2017, he left the Democratic Party due to ideological disagreements with its new leader Matteo Renzi , and during the 2018 parliamentary elections he headed the lists of the new left-wing movement “ ” in three constituencies in Sicily and was re-elected to the Chamber of Deputies [ 3] .
Privacy
Guglielmo Epifani is married to Maria Giuseppina De Luca, with whom he studied at the Lyceum of Horace. The wife works at the (in the system of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy ), the spouses never had children [4] .
According to Epifani, he lost faith in the period between the lyceum and the university, considers himself an agnostic, does not believe in the existence of supernatural forces [1] .
