Yamaki, Michihiro

Michihiro Yamaki ( 山 木 道 広 , 1933-2012) is a Japanese optical engineer, founder and permanent director of Sigma . He is included in the Photo Marketing Association Halls of Fame and the International Photographic Council .

Biography

Michihiro Yamaki was born in 1933, in 1957 he graduated from the university [1] . In September 1961, he created an enterprise for the production and sale of his own invention - a teleconverter located between the lens and the camera. [2] In March 1968, the enterprise was transformed into the Sigma company , the main products of which since then are interchangeable lenses for cameras. [one]

He was director of the Photographic Council of Japan. For 16 years, he was president of the Japan Association of Photographic Manufacturers, 23 years led the Japan Association of Optical Electronics, 12 years served as an adviser to the Japanese Center for Technical Design. For more than three decades, he was a member of the Tokyo-Komae Rotary Club , in 1989, acting as president. [3]

The son of Kazuto Yamaki (b. 1968) has been working for Sigma since 1993, after the death of his father he headed the company.

Mitihiro Yamaki died on January 18, 2012 from liver cancer. [2]

Recognition

In 1989, he received the Photo Industry Award from the British magazine "Ameter Photographer" ( English Amateur Photographer ). A year later, he was elected honorary chairman of the Japan Photographic Association. In 1994 he was included in the Hall of Fame of the Association "P-HM". [2]

In 1998, he received the Leadership Award from the International Photographic Council, and in 2008 was included in his Hall of Fame. [3] [4]

The Photoimaging Manufacturers and Distributors Association selected Michihiro Yamaki “Person of the Year” in 2007 [2] , and in 2013 awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for its contribution to the photo industry [5] [ 6] .

In 2011, he was awarded the Golden Photokin Pins, presented by the organizers of the international exhibition in Cologne. [7]
