According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 1 227.661 km 2 , of which 1 222.481 km 2 are land and 7.770 km 2 or 0.570% are water bodies.
Population
According to the 2000 census [1] , the district has 77,415 residents comprising 30,768 households and 22,399 families . The population density is 63.00 people per km 2 . There are 33,430 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of about 27.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 91.74%, African - Americans - 5.46%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.21%, Asians - 0.39%, Hawaiians - 0.03%, representatives of other races - 1.42 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.76%. Hispanics made up 2.49% of the population, regardless of race .
Of the total number of households , 31.10% are children under the age of 18 years, 57.30% of households are married couples living together, 11.00% of households are single women without a spouse, 27.20% of households households are not related to families , 23.10% of households consist of one person, 9.00% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.48 people and the average family size is 2.89 people.
The age composition of the district: 23.40% under the age of 18, 7.80% from 18 to 24, 30.50% from 25 to 44, 25.10% from 45 to 64 and 25.10% from 65 and older.
