Charles Joseph Patissier, Marquis de Bussy-Castelnau (February 8, 1718 or 1720, Bussy-le-Lone - January 7, 1785, Pondicherry ) - French military and political figure of the 18th century, serving as governor of the French settlement of Pondicherry (part of French India from 1783 in 1785.

Born in the family of an infantry colonel, from a young age he chose a military career. In 1733 he was promoted to lieutenant, in 1734 - captain. After the death of his father in 1736, he enlisted in military service in the French East India Company , the first two years he served in Mauritius , then in Reunion , in 1746 for the first time in the continental part of India.
In India, he initially served under the authority of Joseph Francois Duplay and for his service received the Order of St. Louis . In 1748, he made a major contribution to the restoration of Pondicherry after the departure of the British, who occupied the city during the war for the Austrian inheritance . He remained in service in India until 1761, participated in operations against the British in India during the Seven Years' War (1756-1762) . Then he went to France, where he lived for 20 years, but in 1781 he returned to service in India.
In 1782 he led all French forces (land and sea) behind the Cape of Good Hope . Together with Pierre-Andre de Suffren, he successfully fought against the numerically superior forces of the British during the Indian operations during the war of independence for the United States , when France acted as an ally of the rebel colonies. After the end of hostilities in 1783, he became governor of Pondicherry and lived there until the end of his life.
For his assistance in the fight against the Bobbili rulers, the Vizianagaram raja Pusapati Peda Vijaya Rama Raju presented him the city of Yanaon , which became part of French India.
