Description

Relatively large and medium sized oysters and scale insects (length up to 4 cm). Adult females are usually brightly colored, red or orange. The oral organs are atrophied. Paws consist of one segment. They have 8 pairs of abdominal spiracles. Four larval ages in females and five in males. They feed on plant root juices ( Banksia ), except for the genus Platycoelostoma , whose representatives develop on the branches ( Diselma , Libocedrus ) [3] .

Systematics

2 genera. Previously, giant and carminiferous worms ( Margarodidae ) were included in the family [4] [2] . As a separate family, first mentioned in 1996 (Koteja, 1996) [5]
