According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 4,035,224 km 2 , of which 2,069,153 km 2 are land and 1,966.071 km 2 or 48.700% are water bodies.
Population
According to the 2010 census [1] , the district has 280,566 residents of 110,413 households and 70,196 families . The population density is 135.60 people per km 2 . There are 119,138 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of about 57.60 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 88.20%, African - Americans - 7.20%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.20%, Asians - 1.10%, Hawaiians - 0.03%, representatives of other races - 1.20 %, representatives of two or more races - 2.10%. Hispanics accounted for 3.40% of the population, regardless of race .
Of the 18.00% of the total number of households , children under the age of 18 live, 13.20% of households are couples living together, 36.40% of households are single women without a spouse, 0.00% of households households are not related to families , 29.30% of households consist of one person, 11.30% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.42 people and the average family size is 3.00 people.
