Biography
Jill Friesen was born in 1937 in Pasadena (California), in a family of musicians. Shortly after graduation, he joined the record industry, starting work at the Capitol Records post office. Then he moved to the recording company A&M Records , where he worked for 27 years, 13 of which he was the head of the company. It is often referred to as an ampersand in the abbreviation A & M (where “A” is Herb Alpert and “M” is Jerry Moss ) [2] . After selling A&M in 1990, Friesen left the company. He later worked as a board member and chairman of the Museum of Modern Art in Los Angeles [3] .
He died on December 13, 2012 in his home in Los Angeles, at the age of 75, from complications caused by leukemia [3] . Friesen's last project was a documentary about the history of backing vocals - “Twenty Feet from Becoming a Star,” in which he acted as a producer. The film was released in 2013, after the death of Friesen, was well received by critics and nominated for many prestigious awards, and Jill Friesen was posthumously awarded the Academy Award [1] , Independent Spirit [4] and Grammy Award [5 ] .
