According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 3,869.464 km 2 , of which 1,525.512 km 2 are land and 2,343.952 km 2, or 60.600%, are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , the district has 82,887 inhabitants comprising 32,721 households and 22,348 families . The population density is 54.00 people per km 2 . There are 34 651 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of about 23.00 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 95.90%, African Americans - 0.30%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.43%, Asians - 1.98%, Hawaiians - 0.04%, representatives of other races - 0.60 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.76%. Hispanics made up 1.62% of the population, regardless of race .
Out of the total number of households , 31.50% are children under the age of 18, 57.10% of households are married couples living together, 7.50% of households are single women without a spouse, 31.70% of households households are not related to families , 26.80% of households consist of one person, 12.10% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.49 people and the average family size is 3.04 people.
