Sharon Simpson ( born Sherone Simpson , born August 12, 1984 in Manchester Paris , Jamaica ) is a Jamaican athlete who specializes in short-distance running. Olympic champion of the 2004 Summer Olympics in the 4 × 100 m relay race and the silver medalist of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in the 100 meter race and the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in the 4 × 100 m relay.

Career

At the beginning of her sports career, Sharon Simpson won a gold medal in the 4 × 100 meter relay with teammates Mystery Lawrence , Elin Bailey and Veronica Campbell at the 2004 Athens Olympics. At a distance of 100 meters she took sixth place.

At the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005, she was sixth in the 100 meter race and won the silver medal with the girls from the Jamaican team in the 4x100 meter relay.

In 2006, at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne , she won gold at the 200-meter distance and in the relay 4 × 100 meters. In the same year, Sharon Simpson became the champion of Jamaica in the 100 and 200 meters. In Kingston in June 2006, the athlete set personal records for her career. She ran 100 meters in 10.82 seconds, and 200 meters in 22.00 seconds.

At the Beijing Olympics in 2008, she won a silver medal at a distance of 100 meters, finishing simultaneously with her teammate Carron Stewart . In 2010, along with Shelley-Ann Fraser Price , Carron Stewart and Veronica Campbell-Brown won the silver medal in the relay 4 × 100 meters with a time of 41.70 seconds.

In the pre-Olympic season at the 2011 World Championships in the South Korean city of Tegu , Jamaica finished second in the 4x100 meters relay as part of the Jamaican national team.

In 2012, at the London Olympics, she again reached the finals with Fraser Price, Campbell Brown and Stuart with a time of 41.41 seconds and again won the silver medal in the 4x100 meter relay.

On July 14, 2013, the International Anti-Doping Agency announced that Simpson, along with teammate Asafa Powell, passed a positive doping test at the Jamaican Championship. She was found to have a banned drug - oxilofrin . In April 2014, a Jamaican anti-doping agency disqualified an athlete for 18 months. However, after an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the period of forced excommunication was reduced to 6 months.
