Production
The search for project financing took several years. The film uses many special effects. Jim Henson's studio created a computer model of a giant wasp , and also developed makeup for Yehu .
Story
The plot of the film is based on the memories and hallucinations of Lemuel Gulliver, who returned home.
Part One
The ship's doctor Lemuel Gulliver ( Ted Denson ) returns home after a long journey. He finds his home in the possession of his colleague, Dr. Bates ( James Fox ), and his wife Mary ( Mary Steenburgen ) serves as his housekeeper. Mary is growing up 9-year-old son Tom ( Tom Sturridge ), the son of Lemuel. In the morning, Mary finds her husband in the stable. Gulliver tells his wife and son about his adventures, but they are so fantastic that Dr. Bates considers him crazy and takes him to the hospital for the mentally ill.
According to his stories, his ship is wrecked. The only survivor, he gets to the shore and loses consciousness. And when he comes to, he cannot move a hand or a leg, because he was entangled in many ropes, and even the hair, each strand, was tied with ropes to pegs dug into the ground. It turns out he was in a country where everything, and even people, was reduced by about 12 times ( Lilliputia ), and while he was unconscious, he was found by two Lilliputians - Klustril and Druilo. But the military intervened and ordered him tied. After Gulliver was fed (there would be enough food for a week's maintenance of a whole regiment), they bound him in a specially constructed cart, which was pulled by a hundred horses. So he was taken to the capital, where he appeared before the emperor of Lilliputia ( Peter O'Toole ).
