In 2010, the re-release of the game in high resolution for the PlayStation 3 console took place. Initially, the game was distributed along with the limited edition Medal of Honor (2010) , but a little later it began to be sold separately on the PlayStation Network .

Gameplay

Frontline is a first-person shooter where the player takes control of a soldier from the Second World War , who fights against the Wehrmacht using real weapons of the time, and also performs a number of special military operations. Before the start of each mission, the player passes a briefing, during each of which the story is explained to him and new characters are introduced. Each mission consists of a number of linear levels, each of which is a unique location that requires a special approach from the player. The player’s character begins its journey from the moment of landing in Normandy , surrounded by friendly soldiers controlled by artificial intelligence and forced to break through enemy fortifications at a fast pace and constantly firing. However, with the development of history, the player will participate in many covert operations, including even undercover penetration. All this will happen in the territories captured by the Third Reich , such as cities, villages, estates and shipyards. The player’s tasks also constantly vary along the way, usually they require him to perform such actions as penetration, espionage, rescue or reconnaissance. Due to differences in missions and locations, the gameplay is also constantly changing. Many missions place an action component at the forefront, but there are also those that focus on stealth and intelligence. Most of the tasks are performed alone, but there are those where the player is helped by allied fighters. The character’s health is limited by a certain number of points and is displayed by a separate indicator , you can fill it up by selecting first-aid kits that are scattered by levels.

During the execution of tasks the player can earn a medal. At the end of each level, statistics are summarized, and for fulfilling goals, killing enemies and maintaining their health within the normal range, a player is awarded a rating: bronze, silver, or gold star.

Story

The plot begins with Lieutenant Jimmy Patterson, who takes part in the assault on Omaha Beach as part of Operation Overlord (it is believed that this mission was taken from the movie Saving Private Ryan ), after the assault OSS sends him to destroy the German submarine U-4902. After performing a special operation, the OSS discovers that the Nazis are building secret weapons, but there is no connection with the Dutch Resistance. As a result, Patterson joins the 82nd Airborne Division during Operation Market Garden to find Agent Gerrit and get important information. After receiving important information, the OCC learns that the secret weapon is a high-tech jet aircraft called HO-IX . Patterson proceeds to destroy the aircraft, but along the way he must cross the Nijmegen bridge, disarm the explosives and send supplies to the 1st British Airborne Division defending in Arnhem. The OCC tracks the person responsible for building the fighter (“Hauptsturmfuhrer SS named Rudolf Ulbricht von Sturmgeist”). Patterson sets off for Emmerich to track Sturmgeist, penetrates his personal train. But Patterson couldn't catch him before he could run away. Despite the fact that the hunt for Sturmgeist was fruitless, Patterson was able to penetrate the secret airfield outside Gotha, where the jet aircraft is located, destroys the production of secret weapons, kills Sturmgeist and flies away with the help of HO-IX.

Development

When developing the game, EA Los Angeles decided to make a remake of one of the Allied Assault levels, which eventually became an introductory level in Frontline . However, the main character in it is Jimmy Patterson, despite the fact that in the last game there was a different character. This was done on purpose, so as not to confuse the player with the change of the main characters during the story.

Medal of Honor: Frontline Original Soundtrack Recording is an album of musical accompaniment for the game of the same name. The music was composed by the famous American composer Michael Giaccino in the spring of 2001. [3] The soundtrack was performed by the Northwest Simfonia Orchestra and recorded by Steve Smith at Bastard Chapel, not far from Seattle . Music was recorded between June 11 and 15, 2001. [4] At the time of release, this soundtrack , with its more than 70 minutes of duration, an 80-instrumental orchestra , and a full-fledged choir, was considered the most ambitious in the history of the Medal of Honor series.

Unlike the releases of the soundtrack to Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor: Underground , the Frontline music CD was not distributed through Amazon , but through the EA Games online store. [5] [6] The digital release of the album took place in 2005, three years after the release of the game. [7]
