Pecherkin Igor Aleksandrovich ( April 19, 1928 , Perm - December 12, 1991 , Perm ) - Soviet geologist , doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences , professor of the department of engineering geology and mineral resources protection [1] , dean of the faculty of geology (1969-1970), vice-rector for scientific work (1970-1983) of Perm University . Chairman of the Karst and Speleology Commission of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR , Director of the All-Union Institute of Karst and Speleology (1978-1991), member of the International Association for Engineering Geology , Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR (1986). He formed a scientific school in the field of geodynamics of the banks of reservoirs and engineering karstology .

Biography
In 1950 he graduated from the Faculty of Geology and Geography [2] of Perm University (student of Professor G. A. Maksimovich ). From the same year, he headed the hydrogeological service of the Kizeluglerazvedka trust.
In 1953 - graduate student of the Department of Dynamic Geology and Hydrogeology of PSU.
In 1954 - assistant, teacher of PSU. In 1955 he defended his thesis “Underground and mine waters of the Kizelovsky coal basin ”.
In 1968 he defended his doctoral dissertation " Geodynamics of the coasts of the Kama reservoirs ", received the academic title of professor .
In 1969 - 1970 - Dean of the Faculty of Geology, in 1970-1983 - Vice-Rector for Research at PSU . Since 1977, he headed the Department of Engineering Geology .
In 1970-1991 - Chairman of the Karst and Speleology Commission of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR . In 1978 -1991 - Director of the All-Union Institute of Karst Studies and Speleology, member of the International Association for Engineering Geology.
Son - geologist A.I. Pecherkin (1954-1991), also a professor at PSU.
Scientific activity
I. A. Pecherkin is one of the founders of engineering karstology in Russia . He trained more than 30 candidates of sciences, specialists in various fields of engineering geology. I. A. Pecherkin represented the Perm school at home and abroad, as a member of the Scientific Council of the USSR Academy of Sciences on Engineering Geology, Hydrogeology and Soil Science; Chairman of the Karst and Speleology Commission of the USSR Academy of Sciences; member of the Commission on the study of coastal dynamics; Member of the International Association for Engineering Geology (IAIG). As an expert on responsible projects, he repeatedly traveled abroad - to Vietnam , the USA , Germany and other countries.
He formed a scientific school in the field of geodynamics of the banks of reservoirs and engineering karstology. The school’s studies clearly showed that all exogenous processes occur at the boundary of the atmosphere , hydrosphere , lithosphere and biosphere . The development of V.I.Vernadsky's ideas allowed him to take a new approach to explaining the mechanism and causes of exogenous processes - to justify the dominance of historical-geological analysis of factors and conditions for a specific geological environment. In addition, he solved many problems of soil science , geodynamics , hydrogeology , hydrochemistry , and environmental protection .
