According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 2,245.532 km², of which 2,235.172 km² are land and 8.547 km² or 0.400% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [1] , the district has 8,673 residents comprising 3,371 households and 2,420 families . The population density is 3.90 people per km 2 . There are 3 852 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of about 1.50-x buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 97.45%, African - Americans - 0.21%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.58%, Asians - 0.24%, Hawaiians - 0.02%, representatives of other races - 0.35 %, representatives of two or more races - 1.15%. Hispanics made up 1.44% of the population, regardless of race .
Of the total number of households , 32.40% are children under the age of 18, 61.90% of households are married couples living together, 7.10% of households are single women without a spouse, 28.20% of households households are not related to families , 26.00% of households consist of one person, 13.80% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.51 people and the average family size is 3.03 people.
