Astryab, Alexander Matveyevich

Alexander Matveyevich Astryab ( Ukrainian Oleksandr Matryevich Astryab ; September 3, 1879 , Lubny , Poltava province - November 18, 1962 ) - Ukrainian Soviet mathematician , teacher, professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the Ukrainian SSR (1944). The author of textbooks, educational and methodical manuals on geometry , algebra , arithmetic .

    Biography

    Born in the family of M. G. Astryab (1843–1935), teacher, historian, local historian.

    He studied at the Lubensky male gymnasium, then graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Department of the Natural History Faculty of Kiev University .

    Since 1904, he has taught, taught mathematics and mathematics in high schools and higher educational institutions. Member of the Kiev "First Society of Teachers" (1905). From 1907 he participated in the work of the famous Kiev Physics and Mathematics Society that existed at the university.

    After the revolution, was actively involved in the construction of higher education and the training of scientific and teaching personnel of the Ukrainian SSR.

    In 1930-1957 worked at the Kiev State Pedagogical Institute. A. M. Gorky (now the National Pedagogical University named after MP Dragomanov ), in 1932-1957 headed the sector of the methodology of mathematics of the Research Institute of Pedagogy of the Ukrainian SSR .
