According to the US Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 1,055.556 km 2 , of which 1,053.768 km 2 is land and 1,787 km 2 or 0.170% are water bodies.
Population
According to the 2000 census [1] , 22,908 inhabitants live in the district as part of 8,882 households and 6,270 families . The population density is 22.00 people per km 2 . On the territory of the district there are 9 324 residential buildings, with a building density of about 9.00 buildings per km 2 . The racial composition of the population: whites - 97.91%, African Americans - 0.14%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.08%, Asians - 0.50%, Hawaiians - 0.00%, representatives of other races - 0.74 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.62%. Hispanic people accounted for 1.46% of the population, regardless of race .
33.10% of the total number of households are children under the age of 18, 57.90% of households are married couples living together, 9.20% of households are single women without a spouse, 29.40% of households households are not related to families , 25.40% of households consist of one person, 11.70% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.53 people, and the average family size is 3.03 people.
