History

Since ancient times, these lands have been part of Licheng County. When the city of Jinan was officially established in 1929, these lands were transferred under its jurisdiction. In 1930, Jinan was divided into ten districts, and districts No. 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 were created in these places. During the Japanese occupation, Jinan was divided into 11 districts, and Dongxiang districts were created in these places. (东乡 区), Beixiang (北 乡 区), Xinanxiang (西南 乡 区), Xixiang (西乡 区) and Zhongxiang (中 乡 区). At the end of the Second World War, the administrative-territorial division of Jinan was again changed, and out of eleven urban areas, districts No. 4, 5, 8, and 11 were located in these places.

In 1950, Jinan was divided into 6 urban areas, 5 suburban areas and 2 villages; in these places were the 3rd and 4th urban areas, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th suburban areas, and the village of Bokou (泺 口镇).

In 1955, urban area No. 4 was renamed the Tianqiao District. In 1956, Boyuan (泺 源 区) was disbanded, and part of its land became part of the Tianqiao region. In 1957, the Jinan Suburban District was annexed to Licheng County, and part of the land of Licheng County was transferred to the Tianqiao District.

In 1980, the Jinan Suburban District was re-created from part of the land of the Tianqiao District and Licheng County. In 1987, it was again disbanded.

Administrative division
